Homemade taggie toy

Ok, first, I can't believe it's November already!! I'm glad because I LOVE this time of year, but so extremely sad because Austin's first year is going by so ridiculously fast. So very fast. Right after the holidays I have to start planning his 1st birthday. :(

So when Jackson was born taggie toys (which is what I call those toys with tags all over them- I don't know what they're really called) were all the rage in the baby toy world. I didn't understand why they were so popular because Jackson didn't have a tag affection. Austin, however, LOVES tags. The boy can find the tag on anything and he will chew and suck on every tag he can find all day long! Finally, I understand the obsession over taggie toys and I set out to find Austin some cute taggie toys. I went to every store around and I could not find one single taggie toy. What happened!? 3 years ago I couldn't go anywhere and not have taggie toys on every toy corner, and now they are no where to be found. Well, Austin still needed a taggie toy to feed his tag hunger, so I decided to make one myself with a little felt and ribbon. The whole project only took me a few hours and I hand stitched the whole thing.

Just as I thought, he loves it!!

  1. We got one of these as a gift for Henry, and he loves it, too! It's great for during sacrament meeting because it doesn't make noise. We call it the tag rag at our house :) This one is super cute with the personalization!

  2. Thanks Amy! It's crazy how much they love tags. Jackson never had this fascination.

  3. So... can I place an order for one for Kaden? :)

Maybe a new birthday tradition...

I just have one brother and his birthday is 5 days before mine, so it's been pretty easy to keep up with him. Jim, however, has 3 brothers and a sister, and now 3 of his siblings are married, so the birthday's just keep adding up. My forgetful brain can NOT keep up. Anyway, I've been looking for a cute and thoughtful way to send birthday greetings to all the aunts and uncles since we've been married. Almost 4 years later I think I finally have an idea! My idea is to make a birthday sign every year and have the boys take a picture with the sign for whatever family member has a birthday. Then send the person the picture with birthday greetings. Then every year they will have a different picture with the boys as they grow and I won't feel guilty missing anyone's birthday without proper acknowledgement. I also thought that it would make a great photo album for us if we keep each person's birthday picture with the boys and watch their growth progression ...

Can I finally join the club??

I have issues with making anything with yeast.  It scares me.  I tried making rolls or bread in home-ec as a kid and it was a FLOP!  Since, I stay far away from baking goods with yeast, so of course, that includes homemade bread.  I LOVE homemade bread, but I've never made it.  I realize I'm not a real Mormon wife and mother because of this huge flaw, but I've managed to make it as a so-so wife and mom with this awful glitch in my character.  Then I came across an "easy" recipe for honey wheat bread (thanks for posting it on fb Liz Nuffer) and decided to conquer my fear of yeast. First things first, I had to buy yeast- there are 394 different kinds of yeast.  No one warned me how many different kinds there were!  My fear began to overcome me, but I gathered all my strength and picked the most interestingly plain kind I could find.  Hopefully it would do the trick! I followed the recipe, but it said to wait until the yeast "frothed". ...

The end of school; the end of an era

Soooo, it's been awhile since I've posted, and by "awhile" I mean a year ago.  Oops.  I'm so busy during the school year with my own classes that I forget to post in the blog.  I'll try to do better, especially for our family that lives far away. The end of this school year was crazy!  I felt like I was running in circles working in the PTA- there was so much to do!  I thought joining the PTA would be some good volunteer time at the boys' school- I had NO idea just how much time it takes!  Next year, I'll be a little more prepared because I know what's coming.  And that's not even the crazy part- Jackson has finished elementary and Harrison graduated from pre-k.  That's crazy!  Where did the time go?! Harrison's graduation was first, so I'll start there.  It was soooo sweet and so cute, and I cried like a baby because he IS my baby.  This tiny person is such a perfect little caboose for our family.  Recently, I've been thin...
