"Fishy! Fishy! Fishy!"

So our house is filled with the sound of Jackson saying, "FISHY!". Everyday, all day, he brings us pictures of fish in books, fish toys, and points to fishies on TV. Jackson has a fishy obsession. So we take him to the Science Spectrum weekly so he can spend time with fishies. The Science Spectum's bottom level is filled with all kinds of fish, some other animals too, but Jackson only cares about the fish. Maybe this means he'll be a marine biologist?



He gets so excited, he has to point to all the fish and yell, "fishy!". ...we're working on 'inside voices', but it's not sinking in yet.



Usually we just let him run around to all the different tanks and this last picture is Jackson telling us that he is ready to move on now, so get me down from this bench please.

    Raylene-I'm so happy you have a blog. I saw your wind beneath my wings comment on Melissa's blog and died laughing. Glad I clicked over here. Your little guy is adorable. Keep blogging-I'll be reading.

Homemade laundry soap

After about a dozen of my friends started making their own laundry soap I decided maybe it's time I give it a try too.  After talking to a friend that I KNOW is a neat freak like me and she has 4 kids with double the dirty, sticky, crayon-laced clothes that I have, and she raved about homemade detergent I was sure I wanted to make my own laundry soap too.  You can find my recipe here .  I was able to get spaghetti stains off of a white shirt and make Jim's dingy work shorts really clean and bright again.  All of this with just one little tablespoon of homemade detergent.  I did pre-treat the dried spaghetti sauce with a bar of the Fels-Naptha soap (found in the detergent) because someone told me it's a great stain remover and pre-treat agent, and it is! Maybe a new birthday tradition...

I just have one brother and his birthday is 5 days before mine, so it's been pretty easy to keep up with him. Jim, however, has 3 brothers and a sister, and now 3 of his siblings are married, so the birthday's just keep adding up. My forgetful brain can NOT keep up. Anyway, I've been looking for a cute and thoughtful way to send birthday greetings to all the aunts and uncles since we've been married. Almost 4 years later I think I finally have an idea! My idea is to make a birthday sign every year and have the boys take a picture with the sign for whatever family member has a birthday. Then send the person the picture with birthday greetings. Then every year they will have a different picture with the boys as they grow and I won't feel guilty missing anyone's birthday without proper acknowledgement. I also thought that it would make a great photo album for us if we keep each person's birthday picture with the boys and watch their growth progression ...

The end of school; the end of an era

Soooo, it's been awhile since I've posted, and by "awhile" I mean a year ago.  Oops.  I'm so busy during the school year with my own classes that I forget to post in the blog.  I'll try to do better, especially for our family that lives far away. The end of this school year was crazy!  I felt like I was running in circles working in the PTA- there was so much to do!  I thought joining the PTA would be some good volunteer time at the boys' school- I had NO idea just how much time it takes!  Next year, I'll be a little more prepared because I know what's coming.  And that's not even the crazy part- Jackson has finished elementary and Harrison graduated from pre-k.  That's crazy!  Where did the time go?!
