FHE for Jackson... so far

I'm new at FHE, so I've only done a few. The first couple I just helped him to recognize key people like Heavenly Father, Christ, and Joseph Smith. Basically I started with Heavenly Father and I collected lots of pictures of Him from Ensigns, the Friend magazine, and pictures I had around the house. I read a couple scriptures about Him or said by Heavenly Father and showed him the pictures. I did the same thing with Christ and Joseph Smith. I put the pictures in different places around the room and asked Jackson where Christ was or Joseph Smith etc. Pretty low key stuff, but I had to introduce them somehow.

Next was a "Feed My Sheep" FHE. I read him John 21:17 and explained what it meant to feed his sheep. Then I put together a basic background with construction paper of grass and sky and made a Jesus character with my Cricut (it's a dye-cut machine). I placed Jesus on one side of the paper. I had little sheep stickers, so I let Jackson place little sheep stickers all over the page so he could help Christ "feed his sheep". Jackson loved it and the end result was really cute!

Last week's FHE was the Pearl of Great Price. I was tired of thinking up fun new themes every week, so I'm just going to go through each book of scripture and I'm starting with the Old Testiment (it's my favorite). I use friend.lds.org to teach him the scriptures. They have an option to play the scripture stories like a little picture skit. I did the first set called "Before the Old Testament". It's the Pearl of Great Price in a nutshell. Then we bowled with old empty juice containers and a big read bouncy ball. Jackson LOVED this activity and we did too!! It's a lot of fun for everyone and it spends some of that extra energy that toddlers have before bed time. I didn't get pictures of this FHE, oh well.

I almost forgot yesterday was Monday and we almost didn't do FHE, but at 5:30 (right as I was about to start dinner) I realized that I hadn't planned anything yet. I knew I was gong to use the next scripture story on friend.lds.org which was the creation story in Genesis. Very quickly I had the idea to make another background of the sky and ground with construction paper like before, but this time I added a tree and a sun. I found some insect stickers and flower stickers, so for the activity Jackson created his own Garden of Eden. It was VERY last minute, but it turned out very well!!

Like everyone else in the world, we are pretty budgeted, so I don't have a lot of money to put toward FHE. I try to use what I have around the house like the stickers, construction paper, and empty juice containers. It seems to work out every time and Jackson has fun and that's all that matters!

BABY NUFFER #2 is on his/her way!!!!

That's right, we were waiting to tell everyone, but today we had our second appointment and the second sono and Baby Nuffer #2 is doing well. Most of you know that we had a miscarriage in June after struggling with infertility, it was a very devastating time for us. We were "advised" to wait a couple cycles before trying again (and we were going to take the advice), but a little voice, I know now it was the Spirit, told me we should try again as soon as possible. I talked to Jim and he agreed and sure enough baby #2 is on it's way again! This little one is very healthy and has a strong heartbeat!! We aren't out of the woods yet, I'm just under 9 weeks and at 12 weeks our chances of miscarriage drop significantly. I don't feel we'll be out of the woods until I have our little baby in my arms, which will only give me a whole new set of stresses to worry about. ;) This is Baby Nuffer #2 at 6 weeks and 5 days. If you look close it's off to the ...

Easter 2012

This year we had our big family Easter dinner on Friday because Grandma had to work on Sunday. I tried out a new recipe for dessert which I found on Pinterest (of course). It's a super rich chocolate brownie cake. It turned out great, but was a little too rich for my taste. However, I really think that if you are a true die-hard chocolate lover then you will LOVE this recipe . I thought I was a true die-hard chocolate lover, but this cake beat me. A good friend of mine makes Easter cupcakes with her kids every year. I saw them on her blog last year and I thought they were so cute! This year we made them at our house to hand out to our neighbors. Jackson helped with the baking and decorating. He has some mad grass and egg decorating skills! He also decorated the plates that we handed out the cupcakes on. Our neighbors were quite impressed with his work. For some reason I still get these little momentary realizations that I'm a mother of two, and I get this rush of emo...

Maybe a new birthday tradition...

I just have one brother and his birthday is 5 days before mine, so it's been pretty easy to keep up with him. Jim, however, has 3 brothers and a sister, and now 3 of his siblings are married, so the birthday's just keep adding up. My forgetful brain can NOT keep up. Anyway, I've been looking for a cute and thoughtful way to send birthday greetings to all the aunts and uncles since we've been married. Almost 4 years later I think I finally have an idea! My idea is to make a birthday sign every year and have the boys take a picture with the sign for whatever family member has a birthday. Then send the person the picture with birthday greetings. Then every year they will have a different picture with the boys as they grow and I won't feel guilty missing anyone's birthday without proper acknowledgement. I also thought that it would make a great photo album for us if we keep each person's birthday picture with the boys and watch their growth progression ...
